Operation Telic, 2003
The burning city of Basrah, Iraq taken
at VCP 5 on the main road into the city.
At the start of March 2003, the Irish Guards
deployed as part of the 7th Armoured Brigade on Operation
Telic in the Gulf but the training and preparation had started
months
before.

The picture above which appeared on the front page of The
Sun newspaper is of Sergeant Kev Fletcher, Irish Guards standing
on the outskirts of Basrah just days before we went in.
(A fact he was most proud of telling to anyone who would listen.)
